It’s 9 a.m. you just got into work and you head over to coffee pot only to find it empty. A fit of rage comes over you and within minutes your debating on whether or not to smash the glass pot to ground and hunt down the last person that had coffee with the glass shards. While it is tempting you grumble something about the intelligence of your coworkers, red stabler and burning the office to the ground (a little Office Space humor for you).
Yet, you know you’re not going to do anything you quickly pour the water in and scoop the grounds. Then in a huff you hit the ‘brew’ button.
You all KNOW this has happened to you so don’t deny it. The worst has been, in my opinion, when you actually make the coffee go talk with a coworker or turn on your computer and return to the break room only to find a few wet grounds left for you.
The question is then how do you stay calm in this situation. I’ve come up with the top 5 things to keep you from blowing your top.
Scream It Out
I know this might be easier said than to actually do but its #1 for a reason. I’ve done this numerous times by going outside and giving a good yell. Of course some staff members might look at you crazy but it would be better they look at you odd then you going nuts on them.
Knock ‘Em Out
Find something (not someone) to hit but make sure not to hurt your wrist. If you get so mad that screaming won’t help a 1-2 punch will definitely relieve some of that pressure.
Breathe.Breathe.Breathe.
If you’re not into the first two then this one is for you. Perfect for those trying to achieve Zen in their life.
Squeeze / Play with your Balls
Ok, get your mind out of the gutter people. Get some stress balls or Chinese ball – whichever one works for you. I’ve tried the stress ones and ended up throwing them at my wall.
Turn It Up
If your one of the few who have speakers connected to the computer connect some headphones and turn it all the way up. If you have enough cord length dance it out.
Do you have other ideas that you might’ve used – let me know.
