How To Lose Your Job Pt 1

Writing by admin on Monday, 30 of June , 2008 at 2:56 pm

It’s actually quite easy to lose your job this we know. From basically not doing your job to overstepping your boundaries in your position. What I’m going to tell you is a story of a coworker who was in a position to move up the corporate ladder rather quickly but due to certain events was forced to quit his job.

First allow me to do give you some history on this coworker. His name is Mark and I’ve worked with him in the past few years on various projects. A single guy in his mid 30’s who had just finished his masters in Business Management with high marks. Mark has been with this company for 4 years and was quickly getting noticed as the “go-to” guy. His ability to not just solve problems but come up with resolutions with programs within a matter of days was actually quite amazing.

Getting noticed in the business world can be a great thing if you want to move up in the company. He was the pure definition of being driven yet there were some qualities that Mark held that would be the beginning of his demise. While he was driven in work he could care less in life. The best way I could relate it to is the scene in the infamous Office Space movie where Peter Gibbons is interviewed by the “Bob’s”.

In the cinematic sense Peter has some great perspective on the TP reports and having different managers. Yet, in the real world saying these type of things can lead to you loosing your job.

That’s some background on Mark and tomorrow I’ll be going into part 2 of how he ended up loosing his job.
